Necrons vs Tau/Space Wolves
Greetings all, another game for my Tau, this time I'm allied with Morgan and his Space Wolves to take on the Necron threat commanded by Alun! Alun had 2000pts to play with whereas myself and Morgan split that in half for 1000pts each. We won the dice roll to set up so went first, Hammer and Anvil Deployment and The Relic was the objective... could be tough!
Night fighting was enforced in the first and second turns, meaning not a lot of damage could be dealt by either force. I forgot to take Blacksun Filters!
Morgans Thunderwolves were charged and weakened by Aluns Wraiths. Just as the Thunderwolf cavalry thought they had won a Necron flyer came on and decimated the unit. Meanwhile Morgans Grey Hunters advanced to control the Relic and bring it back, my Firewarriors staying back to cover their return. As dawn began more ranged damage was done.
Alun deepstriked a 10 strong unit of Necron Deathmarks with their single beady eyed heads locked on my Riptide who dealt out destruction with his Ion Accelerator. They aimed and rapid fired into the huge Tau tech and left it on one wound remained. The Riptide returned fire, decimating 7 of them even though two stood back up. The Firewarriors in the centre then rapidfired under the guidence of the Fireblade and fell them, 36 shots tearing through the mechanical creatures.
A bloody battle erupted for the Relic as the Grey Hunters were assaulted on all sides. Scarabs kept them in place so Imotckh and a unit of warriors with another Necron Lord could get stuck in. Both sides piled models in, and there wasn't many left. As the Necron flyer zoomed in to use its deadly death ray my broadside calmly took aim and blew it up with a well aimed shot from its heavy Railgun.
The game ended on Turn 6 with both sides vying for control, but me and Morgan had won
by claiming first blood and I thin Warlord also. So close! We did have more numbers left at the end of the game and if it went to a Turn 7 I would have been able to claim the objective, 2 firewarriors almost in range to claim!
Also being played was another game of 40k, newcomer Paul had a force of Eldar from yesteryear and wanted to be inducted back into the game, so he teamed up with Louis and his Imperial Guard and they versed Andrew and his DeathGuard and Jordan and his Tyranids.
I have nothing in the way of details I'm afraid, you'll have to make to with pictures!
Bam inspects the carnage being wrought by both sides, wishing his space marines could join in and blow them all up!
Huw was here too with No Quarter... heres what he had to say about it!
"The three
players each had a group of three figures each and had no special orders
other than to go into the port of New Blaina and do what they liked.
New blaina is abit of a lawless frontier town with five taverns three
brothels no church and thats the nice partof town.
theres
no law and no government even though its nominally a British posession
so order is traditionally kept by a party of sailors and marines from
whatever ships are in port."
"Ash chose to go looking for trouble in a locals bar and ended up in a
knifefight, Carl tried to break it up with his sailors but some heavily
armed locals persuaded him to move along. after settling the argument by
killing the locals ash headed towardsthe main square.
Pete headed for the biggest tavern and got into a conversation with the
owner finding out thsat a navy message boat had left 20,000 in sacks in
the jail and that Mad Gerald, a local weirdo who keeps crocodiles as
pets knew how a way of getting in. Picking up a local drunk to act as
aligator bait he headed for geralds cottage...."
"Meanwhile
mike had been stopped by carl who wanted to search his bottom for drugs,
an angry crowd gathered and instead he done a scarper letting mike go.
Alun
went to the nasty bit of town and decided-in broad daylight, to do a
bit of housebreaking, which brought carl running to make an easy
collar.
Carl took him to the nasty little jail house and slung him inside where the only thing to sit on were some big sacks full of shiny silver coins, after stuffing their pockets Aluns mob found the back wall was falling down which they were abble to hack thru with their swords and guns which carls coppers had failed to take off them. meanwhile Petes crowd nicked a horse and carriage picked up some whores and headed for the jail shouting loudly that the jail was full of british silver and anyone helping stom it would get a share"

"Long story short: everyone run for the jail, carl split his force in
half to stop mike who had nicked a rowing boat and was trying to rob
his battleship and even tho he shot dead all ashleys gang didnt have the
men to hold off the mob. Carl scarpered handing the navy payroll over
to the pirates and setting himself up for a court-martial next time
around. Alun who had sided with carl to defend the cash got nowt but
pete said he could come with him, mikes gang got shot to shit (again)
and he rowed off on his todd, Ash's one surviving character took his
share of the silver and booked into the third floor of the whorehouse
and is probly there to this day. The End."
So there we go!

Fulgrim: High Res Image
Since the release of Angron, 40k and Heresy addicts have been awaiting the release of the next release in the line of Primarchs, Fulgrim. I thoroughly enjoyed The Emperors Children book, especially the relationship between Fulgrim and Ferrus Manus. With the Forge World open day we finally have a proper look at Fulgrim himself. I'd seen some posts on facebook but the second pic down was a smaller resolution, so if you open it up in a new tab/window you can see it in a nice high res format. Looks stunning I must say, and I may be tempted to pick him up!
I'm really digging the base too, like Angron its a little mini-diorama in itself. I'm curious as to whether they may do a 'duel' base for when they release the Iron Hands Primarch that makes it look like they're battling each other, would work well perhaps!
Heres a colour picture too!
Heres a colour picture too!
A couple of other pictures I've seen from the FW open day, the Istvaan Massacre battle and also some new Mechanicum units...

The Wrath of NurgleCommand...
After weeks of battling, NurgleCommand still awaits his victory against the Space Marines of the Evandalists. The challange was laid, 2k points! We rolled for mission, and got Big Guns Never Tire. This suited me, as I had 3 HS choices, Devastators, Vindicator and Land Raider along with three troops choices. Adam, had taken three too... Ahem.
Deployment!
Adam won the dice off and chose to deploy first. Three of the five objectives lay in easy reach for him which could be difficult for me to shift. My vindicator set up out of the way but ready to cover the middle ground where Typhus and a large number of Plague Marines stood. My scouts deployed in the ruins on top of an objective, hoping to last out with support from the dreadnought beside them.
First turn, and I find it hard to do much damage, the only bits of note were making his cultists panic and running back and killing 5 or six marines with t avindicator blast, almost killing Typhus but not quite.
Defiler comes into play as does a Helldrake which torches most of my scouts, ouch! The scouts are then finished off by the Havocs on the hill controlling one of Adams onjectives. The Forgefiend whittles down my one tactical squad, so I bravely hide them haha. Turn three and I get into trouble, Scouts are gone, and only two members of my one tactical marine squad are alive. Adam has three objectives and first blood, whereas I have just the one. I surge my termies, chaplain and libby out of the landraider to kill the cultists controlling the objective on my right flank. They duly do so, but Adams other squad of Havocs unleah a hail of heavy bolters, causing 5 wounds. No problem, they're terminators right? Roll five dice... five ones. YATZHEEE!!!Unfortunately that gets me nothing in 40k apart from an audience and a lot of laughter! Ah well, at this point I thought it was over, lets just play on to see what happens. In that I lose the Libby and three terminators, the forgefiend then kills my chaplain, and Typhus charges the remaining termies. This does not look good! However, I do get some luck.
Through the fire of my Land Raider, Vindicator and lascannon from my second tactical squad I destroy the forgefiend, one defiler and havocs who were controlling the objectve on the hill... that was useful! Legion of the Damned teleport in and get the attention of the other havocs, but I only lose a few. Tyhpus and the Termies kill each other in the same round of combat, leaving my two tactical squad members to run over and capture the objective on the right flank. The vindicator tries to launch itself forward to get in reach of the top objective in Adams deployment zone but is half an inch out, but my Land Raider claims the objective in my deployment zone.
We count up the victory points and I've pulled off a win! We also realise that Adam took 5 HS choices, sly old Nurglitch fiend! This gave us great amusement though and added to the fun of it all. I really thought after turn three Adam was on his way to beating me, but I had an amazing turn 4 I think it was and managed to get back into the game. It was a really fun battle though and throwing those 5 ones was hysterical, although I don't want to make a habit of it again!

Apocalypse!
"The enemy is many, their hearts blackened with hate and minds lost to the warp. Today, we bring the Emperors light to them. Smite the heretics, burn the Xenos, for they deserve nothing else."
Orneus Gyozo, Chaplain if the Evandalists
And so its Apocalypse time! I've been waiting for this for a wee while, Rhys, who meets up with some of his friends in Brecon got in touch with our club inviting us to go and take part in a huge apocalypse game. He'd contacted a few other clubs too, but many were unable to make it. We did however get 7 of us in total and had a great day in the home of the Jazz Festival! So the players...
Imperium
Myself with my Evandalists and a small Tau contingent
Rhys with Blood Angels, Grey Knights, some baneblades and a Warhound
Liam with Night Lords (yes they're chaos but we had someone pull out and needed a baddy, Night Lords it was!)
Chaos/Xenos
Adam with his Nurgle Marines
George with a large amount of Necrons
Scott with his Eldar
Duane with Necrons and Tau.
Points wise there was at least 25k each! To win you needed objectives and to kill the opposing Warmaster, who was a player picked HQ. Ours was Draigo, and the enemies was of course Abbadon.
Deployment!
We thankfully got to go first, I took the right flank, Rhys took the centre where his Warhound and superheavies could control the middle ground or reinforce a flank if needed and Liam took the left side of the table. The enemy deployed, Adams Nurgle force faced Liam, George put his monoliths in the centre and then some of his force oppostite me. Scotts Eldar were between mine and Rhys' force, and Duance deployed all over the bloody place! I faced a lot of Wraiths, who would be difficult to kill.
Heres my army, deployed for war! I did have a couple of dreads and bikes to the right of this too.
Rhys' lovely painted vindicators, warhound and baneblade ha. Theres were close by to myself and commanded the centre.
This is Liams Defiler conversion, looks amazing!
First turn charges are unheard of unless you play apocalypse! My terminators were bogged down against necrons for pretty much the entire battle! The thunderhammers beat a unit of Lychguard after a few turns then waded in to help the last lightning claw termie and my Chapter Master. Brutal!
Huge monolith and another monolith were destroyed in the first turn, thats insane! Glad the warhound and superheavies were on our side, George also brought down two Necron pylons later in the battle and did a lot of damage but again Rhys destroyed them with a lot of firepower.
Even smelly Nurgle followers drink coffee!
Game in full swing
Chaos versus Chaos turned out to be brutal after all...
Later in the game, I make my push to control my objective. The enemy crisis team are shot apart, and I clear the objective of jetbikes and get my tactical squad on there.
More of the battle
Another bloody battle around an objective, Necrons and Eldar battling the Blood Angels and Grey Knights for control of this one
A mass of Krey Knight terminators controlled the objective in this bastion complex after clearing it of Tau and Necrons
End of the game! I managed to keep control of the objective, making the last few Warp Spiders of a unit flee from combat after the Tactical sarge slapped one with his power fist.
As you can see, theres not much left on the chaos derby table!
And finally, had to show off Liams Storm Eagle, such a nice looking flyer!
And so battle was done, and the Imperium had won 6-0. Despite the score it was close and we could have lost a couple of objectives easily. The best part? We had a huge amount of fun! It was really nice meeting the guys too, and we're hoping to do battle once again in the dark future... where there is only war!
For me, my favourite highlights were...
Using my Callidus assassin for the first time ever, despite having the model for about 15 years.
Getting all my other vehicles weathered in time and being pretty proud at how good they looked on the table, very chuffed!
Holding my own against Necrons, I don't know how to play against them that much so was happy with how well I did not to let them get in my face.
Seeing everyone get on well and having fun. This hobby is community driven, and its awesome that a set of rules in a book can bring together number of people together who have never met and get along easily.
So a great day and hopefully more to come, Rhys has already mentioned about organising another game. Hopefully we'll have a few games on at one time and just a couple of players per side to each table so it runs a little quicker. All in all though, awesome day!
